Electric Lemon

Back

Electric Lemon won't have far to go to plug in their instruments, come Witnness. They're based just over the road, so to speak, in Ratoath, Co. Meath. So technically, their slot at Witnness counts as a much needed hometown gig.

It's a much needed stop at home for a band who've spent much of the last few dizzying months playing everywhere else in Ireland and over the water. Electric Lemon only formed about six short months ago, uniting the talents of guitarist Stuart Grey, singer Simon Martin - the band's baby, at 19 - martin O' Neill on bass and drummer Eric Yore, commonly known as Scobe for reasons no thus far revealed. Their own pop/rock songs are supplemented by kicking interpretations of well-loved hits by Crowded House, Deacon Blue and Stereophonics, and this combination has won them new fans wherever they've played.

Sturart, it seems, has friends in high places, having played guitar for Ronan Keating a few years back and done similar work for Ireland's Eurovision entry Eamon Toal. But if early whispers concerning Electric Lemon's debut single are to be believed, he won't need to call on them to get his music heard. An album is on the cards for the end of the year, but that seems light years away for the Lemon lads, who are excited enough about here and now.

Oh, and that name? Not induced by some freaky drug experience, as you might have imagined. But rather, a shortened version of a favoured cocktail served in a small pub in Carrickmacross. It was called Electric Lemonade, and they are Electric Lemon. Remember you heard them first.
